Laikipia North legislator Mathew Lempurkel on Wednesday was released on Sh100,000 cash bail after he denied assault charges to a woman colleague.
Lempurkel was charged of assaulting nominated Mp Sarah Korere at Harambee House on Tuesday.
Korere has declared interest to unseat him in 2017 polls
Korere claimed that Lempurkel slapped her left cheek and kicking her in the lower abdomen.
Lempurkel spent Tuesday night at Kileleshwa police station.
Appearing before senior principal magistrate Joyce Gandani on Wednesday morning, Lempurkel asked the court to delay his prosecution to allow him to pursue a complaint he filed against Korere at the ODPP but Gandani denied his application and ordered him to take an immediate plea in the assault case.
The case will be mentioned on December 5 and the trial will begin on January 18.
