Lamu East MP Athman Shariff has dismissed the low voter turnout witnessed in the Coast region during the just-concluded presidential repeat polls.Speaking on Sunday, the lawmaker asserted that the low voter turnout does not in any way imply that the region is an opposition stronghold."Lamu is and will remain, a Jubilee stronghold. Despite the low turnout in the repeat poll, we are confident their support lies with JP,” said Shariff.Shariff further observed that the Jubilee administration had initiated key development projects in the region."Jubilee has done us a lot of good. The opposition and majority of their leaders have been in power but haven't done what Jubilee has done," he said."People should, therefore, stop assuming the majority who didn't vote belong to NASA. I believe people here had completely different and personal reasons for not turning up to participate in the polls," he added.Out of the more than 69,000 registered voters in Lamu County, only a paltry 23,000 turned up to vote in Thursday’s repeat presidential election.
