A Kisii MP has dismissed a declaration dubbed Otamba ‘succession politics’ and vowed to support incumbent Kisii Governor James Ongwae.
A section of legislators led by Kisii Senator Chis Obure recently convened a meeting at Otamba and expressed their desire to come up with a single political party that could be used to push for the interest of Abagusii community.
But Mr Richard Onyonka of Kitutu Chache South and a member of the declaration has since withdrawn his support insisting that it was mere politics to overthrow Governor James Ongwae.
“I will always support a common unity that can help our community forge forward that is why I am always keen to support people pushing for the Abagusii unity,” he said.
“However, whatever we declared at Otamba has turned out to be succession politics aiming to topple Governor James Ongwae. I am not going to be party of that because I don’t see the reason to oppose someone who has really tried hard to set the pace in development,” he added.
Under the arrangement of the Otamba declaration, Mr Obure was reportedly proposed to run as the Governor with Joash Maangi Deputising him. Former CIC Chairman Charles Nyachae was reportedly endorsed to run for Senatorial position a line-up that Onyonka has since dismissed.
“I thought we sat down to find the best way we can bargain in any government whether JAP or Cord but my friends are busy finding suitable positions ahead of 2017. I have no issues with Ongwae and I will support him fully,” he said during a burial at Itibo on Sunday.
