North Mugirango Member of Parliament Charles Geni on Wednesday distributed textbooks worth more than Sh10 million to primary and secondary schools in his constituency in Nyamira County.
Speaking in Ekerenyo, Geni said that the books will help instill a reading culture in the pupils and students, and also improve their general performance in class.
“These books that we have been given by these people that have the interests of our children at heart are to instill a reading culture in our children, this is a problem the whole country is facing,” he said.
He also said that the books will help the children gain the knowledge required by them as they grow in the society.
Geni emphasized on the need for children to go to school and gain more knowledge of how to cope with the society and the challenges that come along with it.
“Every child has a right to education and they should have the knowledge on how to live in our society, and I want to urge you parents to please ensure your children read,” said Geni.
He added that it is the right of every child to have education noting that they are the future leaders of this country.
The books were donated by the NGO, Children International.
