Speaking while she donated geometry sets, pens, clipboards and success cards to candidates at Ruiru Girls Secondary School on Friday, the MP said that the move was meant to ensure candidates sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and those preparing for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) are well prepared and equipped.

Gathogo asked the candidates to prepare well saying that they have every material needed for them to pass the national examinations.

“I want to ask you (candidates) to focus on the forthcoming examination and perform well,” she said.

The MP who also visited several private schools in the constituency and donated certificates to candidates, said the constituency has enough bursary funds for needy students.

She challenged needy students to apply for the funds in order for them to continue with their studies.

The legislator complained that needy students are reluctant to apply for bursaries a situation she said will not help but continue the chains of poverty.

Gathogo told students that education remains the key to a good life and that they must work hard to succeed.

At the same time, the law maker asked students to shun drug abuse saying it will only erode their lives. She observed that many students are being lured to drug peddling in the county.

She asked both the county and the national government to implement policies that will curb drug abuse among teenagers.

“We must find lasting solutions to the issue of drug abuse among youngsters, “she said.

The MP vowed to spearhead campaigns aimed at empowering young people and women for socio-economic prosperity.
