Rarieda Member of Parliament (MP) Eng. Nicholas Gumbo today donated school uniforms to more than 50 needy pupils under the care of an NGO-Ruma Women Development Centre.
Eng. Gumbo said that the donation was a way of motivating and supporting most vulnerable children who have difficulties in pursuing their basic education due to financial challenges.
He acknowledged the donation was part of contribution from his organisation popularly known as Rarieda Education Support Action (RESA) which has been paying school fees to the less fortunate children in the constituency.
Gumbo who was speaking at Ruma Women Development Centre in his constituency, observed that lack of learning basic requirements like uniforms among others could affect performance needy students.
The legislator called upon local leaders to come up and join hands in ensuring that vulnerable children in the society are given financial aid to enable them acquire basic education for the betterment of their future.
“Without such support some of us could not have even seen doors of a classroom, so let us come out and support the needy as a way of giving back to our society,” said Eng. Gumbo.
Ruma Women Development Center Director Gladys Chika appreciated the area MP for considering supporting needy children who have been under their care for the last 15 years.
Chika on that note said that they are ready to work closely with local leaders to support needy children rather than entirely depending on foreign donors.
