Persons Living with Disability (PLWD) in Mombasa on Friday took to the streets to protest over derogatory remarks allegedly made about them by Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima. The group expressed its disappointment after the MP allegedly asked the electorate not to elect any disabled person, Baraka FM reports. The protesters, who matched from Likoni to the Jubilee party offices in Nyali, lashed out at Mwahima for discriminating against them. The team, under the leadership of Mtongwe MCA Steven Mutinda, called upon the government to take stern action against the MP.They also claimed that Mwahima had paid one of the aspirants Sh80, 000 to ensure blind aspirants do not win any seat in August.“The MP called a section of his supporters to his home in Likoni on Thursday, he gave one of the aspirants Sh80,000 for campaigns and asked the supporters not to vote for blind people as he was not comfortable working with them,” said Mutinda, as quoted by the daily. The protesters have pleaded with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Jubilee Party to bar Mwahima from contesting in the August polls. Efforts by the daily to get a comment from the MP proved futile.
