Ijara Constituency MP elect Sophia Abdi Noor has pledged servant leadership to residents.
Noor who is the first woman to be elected in North Eastern political history says that she will serve locals wholeheartedly.
The MP elect says that Ijara residents have been sidelined in terms of development for many years.
She said that previous leaders failed to articulate the issues facing common locals.
Noor, who won the seat on Party of Reforms and Development (PDR) said that its time for the constituency to shine in terms of development has come.
“I want to assure Ijara people that I will offer them servant leadership without discrimination,” she said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
The MP elect promised to boost education standards and empower end cultural practices that demean women and girls.
She observed that education standards are still low in the constituency despite the national government free and primary education and also the subsided secondary education.
She also promised to exercise fairness in allocation of bursary money and scholarships under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The MP elect indicated said that women empowerment through education and business will also be among her top agenda.
She urged other elected leaders in the constituency and the larger Garissa County to work together for the interests of the locals.
She noted that the county will achieve its development goals if leaders unite and work together.
Noor won the seat narrowly sending veteran politician Ahmed Ibrahim Abbas home.
The MP elect garnered 6,001 votes against her closet rival’s 5, 074 votes in the recently concluded general election to become the first woman to be elected in the region’s history.
