Nyando MP Fred Outa has volunteered to pay 36 people at Nyando registration of persons centre to scale up the speed of applying for IDs in the constituency.
Outa said the personnel at the registration centre which is now centralized at Ahero Multipurpose Hall is small thus the need to add the number.
He said he will pay for their stipend of the 36 people who have been added to the government personnel in the constituency.
“It is evident that the government staff is unable to cope up with the number of people turning up to register for IDs. I have stepped in to bring in additional staff for this work,” he said.
The MP also offered to facilitate chiefs who are stationed at the centre to ensure the ID application process is successful.
Speaking on Friday when he visited the team at the Multipurpose Hall, Outa said some of the government officers from Monday will now be at Rabuor and Awasi to receive more applications from the public.
The MP said politicians in the constituency are pulling resources together to fund the process.
He said those eying various seats in the constituency must come on board to fund the process because these are the votes they will target in the coming polls.
Registrar of persons in Nyando Lillian Aluoch said there are many people with IDs who have refused to go register as voters in the constituency.
Aluoch said since 2013 they have registered 29,000 people who have since collected their IDs and IEBC target in the ongoing voter registration is 24,000.
“Quite a number of people are holding IDs but dn’t want to register as voters,” she said.
