North Mugirango MP Charles Geni has endorsed the recent decision by the Orange Democratic Movement party of de-whipping errant members.
The Orange party on Tuesday released a list of members who face serious party sanctions should they fail to give substantial reasons on why they decamped to the Jubilee Party.
And Geni on Wednesday insisted that all members of the party should adhere to the party’s positions or quit in line with the Political Parties’ Act.
“I welcome the de-whipping of errant party members because we have rules and regulations. It's either you respect the party or join the party of your choice. We cannot tolerate people insulting the party that sponsored them to Parliament,” he said.
“The disciplinary committee should expunge their names from the official register so that they seek a fresh mandate from people based on their party of choice. We must respect party structures and as the ODM, we must act,” added the Nyamira County ODM secretary general.
He also insisted that the Orange party should use the by-elections which will result from the vacancies to test its strength before the 2017 polls.
“We need by-elections in those regions so that we can gauge our strength. We can allow people to drag us behind yet we have people who can help us strengthen the party,” he said.
