Barely a month after President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto were sworn into office at the Kasarani Stadium, leaders from Mt Kenya region have already embarked on the 2022 elections.

North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood on Saturday asked the second in command to name Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi as his running mate in the 2022 presidential race.

According to Dawood, Murungi has what it takes to become the Deputy President when that time comes. He argued that Murungi not only has an impressive performance scoreboard but he enjoys massive support from the entire nation.

“When DP Ruto will be seeking the Presidency in 2022, we want you [Kiraitu] to deputise him,” he said, as quoted by The Star.

Dawood also hailed the former Prime Minister and leader of the National Super Alliance (NASA) for making U-turn on swearing in plans.

He advised the opposition leader to stay away from the political arena until 2022.

He further said that he will defend his post during the next general elections. The remarks of the lawmaker come at a time when leaders of the opposition have maintained that they must swearn in Raila.
