Changamwe Member of Parliament Omar Mwinyi has raised concerns over poor performance in last year KCSE examination within his constituency.
Mwinyi said that the deteriorating education standards in Changamwe were a great concern and education stakeholders should immediately converge and debate ways of salvaging the situation.
Speaking at Changamwe CDF office in Mombasa Wednesday morning, Mwinyi said that parents, students, teachers and other education stakeholders in the area should unite and discuss better ways of improving education standards in the Changamwe constituency.
He said that the situation was so bad in secondary schools where many students did not get the university pass mark.
“For example our old Changamwe secondary school, with a total of 90 students who sat the KCSE examination, only one student got university pass mark and it was not an A,” he said.
Mwinyi said that the 2017 KCSE results should worry all Changamwe residents and a solution concerning the dwindling education levels in the area reached.
He said that together with other political leaders he is already planning for an education dialogue in the area to enable parents, students and other education stakeholders raise their concerns ideas and solutions to the education problem
Meanwhile, Kipevu ward representative Faith Mwende Boniface has appealed to parents in the constituency to ensure their children properly attend school.
Mwende said that it was necessary for parents to closely monitor their children while at home or at school so that they understand what they normally do as well as their strength and weaknesses.
She said that with the full support from parents, teachers and the area political leaders, educations levels in the Changamwe constituency will improve.
