The Nakuru County Assembly Committee on Roads Public Works has refuted claims that equipment acquired by the county government id this year were bought at an exaggerated price.
Among the machinery were construction machines and tipper lorries which were acquired to help with roads maintenance.
The allegations were made by Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri but committee chairman Hezy Kungu said that suppliers of the machines were chosen after a ‘very competitive tendering process’. He added that documents to that effect are open for perusal.
“Figures being mentioned by the lawmaker are imaginary and were not even quoted by any of the contractors who tendered. The MP should not rely on rumours in order to settle political scores,” said Kungu.
He added that the committee has resolved that in order for the machines to be deployed to work in various areas, the area MCA should be involved to avoid issues like when a grader was recalled on Thursday because the area MCA had not been involved.
The grader was on Friday driven off from the Bahati Police Station under escort after it emerged that there were plans to block the move.
