President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to hold two of the national holidays at the county levels in a rotational manner has been dismissed by an ODM MP.

Mr Timothy Bosire of Kitutu Masaba on Saturday termed the decision as ‘ill-advised’ and urged the head of state to overturn his decision since it would be ‘a burden’ to taxpayers.

He said facilitating the head of state and his convoys to the host counties will be expensive than when the holidays are celebrated in Nairobi.

“I think the president was ill advised and he should overturn the decision immediately. If held, it will be a burden to tax payers since facilitating the president to the hoist counties will be expensive than holding the meetings in Nairobi,” Bosire said.

He said holding the celebrations at the county level would not have any significant contribution to devolution and maintained that county commissioners and Governors were enough to oversee the celebrations.

“I don’t see the relationship between devolution and holding the national holidays at the county level. Let the Governors and county commissioners do the job. What counties need is more resources and not holding the national celebrations,” he said.

The first term legislator defended his inability to sponsor a single bill in National assembly and said he had contributed significantly in debates and committee of the house.

“I am in a number of committees and that is where the real work of legislators is and I too contribute to debates. Also, members of the opposition find it hard to come up with party bills due to tyranny of numbers in the house,” he said.

President Kenyatta on Friday when meeting Council of Governors said two holidays; Madaraka and Mashujaa will be held on a rotational basis at the county level with only Jamhuri celebrated in Nairobi.
