Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo has warned parents who will not take their children to school as from next term, saying she will ensure they face the law.
Gathogo, who was speaking to journalists on Tuesday morning in Ruiru town, lamented that crimes committed by young children below the age of 18 years were on the rise, and it is because of poor parenting.
The MP warned parents who have the tendency of neglecting their children, who end up in neighbouring towns where they are involved in heinous crimes and end up being arrested.
“Parents whose children are being apprehended in night clubs indulging in drug and substance abuse will be prosecuted together with their children,” warned Gathogo.
She further warned parents who do not take their children to school for invalid reasons, saying it increases crime and drug abuse in the area.
This comes after Community Policing chairman Paul Njomo conducted a survey in Kiandutu slums, and realized that many children drop out of school due to unknown reasons, while others are totally never taken to school by their guardians.
The lawmaker has fired a warning shot to parents, that in partnership with the area police, they will be vigilant to tame insecurity, which is as a result of parental negligence and school drop outs that terrorize residents in the estates.
