Former Eldoret South MP Peris Simam is receiving treatment after she fell sick at a prison in Eldoret.

The former politician, her husband and fours others were on Friday last week found guilty of engaging in economic crime.

Sources close to her family told The Standard that Mrs Simam fell ill shortly after she was taken to Eldoret Women Prison, following a court hearing in which she was found guilty of committing the offense alongside her husband.

The officer in charge of Eldoret GK Prison Francis Kabiro told the press that the four male was taken to prison after they were found guilty of committing several offences in relation to economic crime.

"I can confirm that I booked four male remandees at the facility who had been convicted by the court over an economic crime. One of the men reportedly said to have collapsed in the dock during the case ruling was in stable condition at the facility," Kabiro said.

However, when The Standard team visited the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where the MP is said to have been admitted, they were not allowed to access her private wing because of tight security offered by three prison warders.
