Nyando MP Fred Outa has announced that he will create awareness on the dangers of jiggers in the constituency.
Outa said many people suffer in silence and he will use his position as the MP, in partnership with other agencies to eradicate jiggers in the area.
“I want to work with other agencies to eradicate jiggers in Nyando since it's becoming a menace,” he said.
Speaking at Kagimba primary school in Nyando during an anti-jigger campaign by Ahadi Kenya Trust, Outa said people should come out and seek for medication.
The MP said most children are not going to school due to infestation with jiggers. “There is a lot of absenteeism in schools as a result of jiggers because children cannot walk to school,” he said.
Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma who was the chief guest at the event said he will improve education infrastructure to ensure hygiene is maintained adding that his government is committed to give proper services to the people.
He said ECDs will be built in every school to ensure young children starting school get good education atmosphere in a new design to be built across the county.
“There is a standard design for the ECD and soon it be rolled out and we will start with a few schools where it will be built,” he said.
