North Mugirango MP Charles Mongare Geni has officially been crowned the constituency elder.
On Friday, both residents and village elders gathered at Bokeira ward to witness their son crowned an elder.
Dressed in both suit and traditional attire, the MP said that he had accepted the leadership mantle and was ready to work with all stakeholders and communities to ensure he puts the constituency on the map.
During the colourful celebration, the elders said they still believed in Geni's leadership and that they are ready to entrust him with the northern constituency in the next general election slated for August 2017.
“I am but your servant, let’s all remember where we were in 2013 and where we are right now. A lot happens when you’re given an opportunity to serve. We are not perfect as members of Parliament, I have tried so hard to live to the electorate's expectation I am still in the process of accomplishing my campaign pledges and I’m grateful for your unwavering support," said Geni.
The event marked a journey for the legislature in his re-election bid where his supporters assured him of their votes so that he wins as early as 6am, a message which now doubt has sent jitters in the camps of his opponents.
