North Mugirango MP Charles Geni has termed information doing rounds on social media that he plans to contest the Nyamira gubernatorial seat as ‘ridiculous and unfortunate’.
A section of county residents had linked him to the gubernatorial race on social media platforms alleging that he had backed Nyamira County Assembly Speaker Joash Nyamoko to succeed him in the parliamentary seat.
But an angry Geni refuted the claims and labelled it part of the propaganda to distract him from executing his legislative role as the North Mugirango MP.
“I am really disappointed with the rumour because I am not aware of such a move. The rumour is ridiculous and unfortunate, and it’s my appeal to people to treat it with the contempt it deserves,” Geni told this writer on the phone Thursday.
“The people of North Mugirango still need me and I have to complete what I started before making any announcement. I am still in the parliamentary race and whoever is cheating people that I have supported someone else is just but passing wind,” he added.
Geni at the same time urged youths from his constituency to shun leaders who are allegedly misusing them to spread propaganda in their favour.
“We need each other and it’s my appeal to youths that they become constructive rather than being used by politicians to spread propaganda. It is time that as politicians we support them by empowering them economically. This isn’t the time for politicking,” he said.
