The Orange Democratic Movement should use its 10th birthday celebrations to announce party Raila Odinga as the sole presidential candidate for the opposition, North Mugirango MP Charles Geni has proposed.
Cord is yet to name its flag bearer who will tussle out with President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017 polls with just less than a year to elections.
And Geni who also doubles as the Nyamira County ODM secretary general insisted that the Cord should name Raila as its presidential candidate during the celebrations slated for Friday to avoid more confusions.
“As a senior member of the opposition, I think we are giving our competitors more time to organise themselves. We should name our flag bearer as early as this to avoid future confusions,” he said.
“Raila has worked so hard to put the Jubilee government on its toes and it will be an injustice if we don’t give him another chance to go for the presidency. He should be declared the flag bearer during our 10th birthday on Friday,” he added.
He said the veteran politician is the only person with the ‘ability’ to muscle the Jubilee government and send it home in the 2017 polls.
“Raila has been very focused throughout unlike other opposition leaders. He has the ability to send home this corrupt regime,” he said.
