Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru has accused governors of using the Integrated Financial Finance Management Information System (IFMIS) as a scapegoat to justify corruption in the counties.
Reacting to the Auditor General's report on Wednesday that alleged misappropriation of public funds in the counties, the legislator challenged governors to account for all the monies allocated to them by the treasury.
"It is unacceptable for the county bosses to now turn around and blame a system that has been in use for years now," he said.
"Kenyans had a lot of hopes on devolution, but most governors have proved to be just interested in enriching themselves," he added.
Governors led by the Council of Governors chairperson and Meru governor Peter Munya faulted IFMIS for the loss of public funds in the counties, calling for its immediate shutdown by the government.
