Obura said most students with good results are unable to get access national schools within their areas.

He said a law should be passed or the education Act amended to reserve some percentage for the local students, where the national schools are.

“I will sponsor a Bill in parliament to create that law that gives out students’ opportunity to join national schools within our areas,” he said.

The MP said the national government had increased the number of national schools, but they are not serving students in those areas.

Speaking in Kisumu, Obura said the form one selection was a sham, as most students with higher marks failed to get admission in national schools of their choice.

“This year form one selection was a sham and it is only a law that will streamline the form one selection exercise,” he said.

He hinted that he plans to summon education cabinet secretary Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi to parliament once they resume, to shade more light over that matter.

Obura said parents and students are disappointed with the exercise and questioned the rationale used to award admission of students across the country.
