An MP allied to the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has indicated that the country's largest opposition party may work with independence party Kenya African national Union (Kanu) during the 2022 general elections.
Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir in an interview with KTN News said ODM is free to work with any political party during the polls as long as the aspirations of that political grouping envisages at uplifting the livelihoods of Kenyans.
The MP was among the two opposition lawmakers who accompanied opposition leader Raila Odinga in meeting former President Daniel Arap Moi at his Kabarnet on Thursday.
Moi ruled Kenya for 24 years under Kanu party.
"ODM is going to work with anyone whose views, agendas and interests are going to be those of Kenyans. We are at liberty because the laws of Kenya allow us," Nassir said.
"The Constitution of Kenya allows us to work with any political party as long as the needs and desires of Kenyans are going to be met."
Raila met Moi on Thursday with speculation rife that the two may be crafting a unite front through which Kanu and ODM will approach the polls which Moi's son Gideon Moi says he will contest for the presidency. Moi during his last days as president worked with Raila.
