Kilifi North MP Owen Baya has dared Italian billionaire Flavio Briatore to pull out of Malindi after he raised concern over the garbage mess. Speaking to journalists in Kilifi Town, the lawmaker said that the wealthy investor has been adding no value to the county, adding that his departure will not affect the economy of the region. On Thursday, the tycoon threatened to sell his multimillion hotel if the county government does not resolve the garbage collection menace with immediate effect. Baya, however, said the move will not have an impact on the county’s economy, arguing that the businessman has hired over 80 percent of his staff from Italy. The MP also hit out at the investor, arguing that he has done little when it comes to the community yet he is quick to raise his voice over the garbage collection issue. He further accused him of doing nothing to change the lives of the youth in the county since moving to the region.“He has done nothing in terms of community services. All he has done is to bring cooks and other staff from Italy, what has he done to salvage the situation of the town being dirty. The other issue is that he has been doing nothing in terms of marketing and that’s why our youth have not been getting any jobs there,” said Baya, as quoted by Baraka FM.The remarks of the lawmaker come after Governor Amason Kingi reportedly convened a meeting to address the tycoon’s concerns.
