Malindi Parliamentary seat aspirant Philip Charo has dared National Super Alliance (NASA) to boycott the August 8 polls.
Charo said NASA’s threat will not scare Jubilee, adding that the forthcoming elections will take place even if NASA boycotts.
The Jubilee MP hopeful claimed that the Raila Odinga led alliance has sensed defeat and wants to quit the polls.
“NASA leaders have developed cold feet and are now coming up with malicious threats to scare the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC),” said Charo, as quoted by the Standard.
The Jubilee Parliamentary aspirant claimed that NASA’s agenda is to confuse the electoral commission and later blame it for failing to guarantee fair polls.
“We know all the tricks NASA is using and we want to tell them they will not succeed in dividing and inciting the country,” said Charo.
He said IEBC is an independent commission and must be allowed to do its work independently.
On Sunday during a rally at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, NASA leaders threatened to boycott the August polls if IEBC successfully appeals a court order permitting tallying of presidential votes at constituency level.
NASA leaders claimed IEBC’s move to appeal the court order was malicious.
The electoral commission has since defended its move saying it is provided for in the Constitution.
The Wafula Chebukati-led commission further warned NASA leaders against making statements that could threaten its work and the country’s security.
