Thika Member of Parliament Alice Ng’ang’a has odered the reinstating of the sacked Bidco supervisor and other workers.
Speaking to workers who were on a rampage outside Bidco compound on Tuesday, Ng’ang’a convened a meeting with the management whose aim was to order the re-employment of the sacked employees and issuance of overtime allowances.
She requested over 3,000 Bidco employees, who are employed casually, to be calm and wait for a full time solution to their problems.
Some of the rights that employees were airing include permanent employment, payment of overtime allowances and reduction of workload.
The employees had in the morning rioted at the gates of Bidco refineries, where they declined to go back to work before their problems are solved.
The employees were however calmed by deposited anti-riot police officers that had come from Thika police station.
It is after the presence of the area MP that the rioters agreed to converse with the management.
Ng’ang’a told the press that time has come that casual employees from various companies be treated fairly according to the type of service they offer.
“Gone are the days that we were treating casual labourers like street urchins, these people deserve respect. In fact, they are the once that make this organization stand firmly,” she said.
“We have spoken with the management and your issues will be solved before the end of this week. All the sacked employees will be back, your salaries will be increased in two terms and overtime payment will be paid in a timely manner,” she added.
Nothing was destroyed during the peaceful demonstrations, although the situation attracted a great number of passerbies who watched the incident in awe.
