Nyando MP Fred Outa has threatened to mobilise parents in his constituency to protests against the government for failure to pay teachers.
Outa said if seven days elapsed without a solution to the salary impasse being found, he will mobilise parents in his constituency to hold a demonstration in support of teachers.
“After the elapse of seven days without pay to our teachers, I will mobilise parents to protest to compel the government to act,” he said.
He asked the government to retire Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi since he has failed to streamline the education sector.
The MP said there are able Kenyans who can run the education docket better than the current cabinet secretary.
Speaking in his constituency when he addressed rice farmers on Thursday at West Kano Irrigation Scheme, Outa urged the government to solicit for funds from other ministries and pay teachers.
He said corruption has eaten into the money that could have been given to the teachers after the Supreme Court ruling.
“The government has a lot of money, it is simple, let the government deal with corrupt leaders and government officers to recover the money and pay teachers,” he said.
Outa said it is high time the government tighten the noose to deal with corruption with the aim of avoiding the wastage of funds through embezzlement.
The MP noted that constant strikes by the teachers and health officials were a clear indication that the Jubilee administration was not ready to handle devolution.
