Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro has accused ODM Governors Hassan Joho (Mombasa) and Amason Kingi (Kilifi) of using their party leader Raila Odinga as a shield to avoid audit queries.Speaking during a Jubilee rally in Malindi on Sunday, Mung’aro alleged the two Coast Governors have misappropriated public funds through massive irregular spending."The Auditor-General has raised serious audit queries in Kilifi and Mombasa counties. Now Kingi and Joho are using Raila as a shield to avoid being held to account on the use of public funds in the past four years," said the MP.Raila has been grappling with accusations that he attacks the Jubilee administration for corruption but defends Cord governors whose spending of public funds is in question.Mung’aro, who was elected on an ODM ticket but later defected to Jubilee, also accused Joho of manipulating area leaders so as to be recognised as the Coast kingpin.“Kilifi is controlled or ruled from Mombasa by a sultan. On August 8 we will liberate our people so that they can make decisions on how to use their funds to develop the county,” Mung'aro said as quoted by the Standard. While highlighting some projects in progress, the legislator defended his defection to Jubilee saying the region has benefited from the Jubilee administration.“Those asking what we have achieved since we joined the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta should see the number of roads currently under construction. We ask the Kilifi Governor to show us the project he has implemented in the past four years,” he added.
