Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa has refuted claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto were targeting Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho when they called for the arrest of drug barons in the county.
According to Ichung'wa, the president and his deputy only warned those engaging in the illegal business that they would be arrested and charged in a court of law."I listened to the president and his deputy when they were in Mombasa. The two never mentioned anyone and only said all drug barons had their days numbered as they would be arrested and charged for engaging in the illegal business," said Ichung'wa.Speaking during an interview on Radio Maisha on Sunday, Ichung'wa said that Governor Joho was overreacting, thus raising questions over his involvement in the illegal trade, as no one had mentioned him."Why is Joho this afraid? The governor is overreacting and this only raises eyebrows because other leaders in the Coast region never responded or claimed that they were being targeted in the ongoing operation in the region," added Ichung'wa.The legislator said most drugs find their way into the country through the Port of Mombasa, and it was only logical for the president and his deputy to address the issue while in Mombasa.
