Residents of Githurai in Ruiru Sub-County have decried shortage of piped water in the area for the last one week.
This is despite the fact that they are experiencing heavy rains.
Led by their MP Esther Gathogo, the residents said that the water company in the area should act immediately on the challenge as the rain is not consistent and that they cannot rely on rain water.
Gathogo said that the residents are forced to walk distances to fetch water from a borehole and most of them buy from the vendors who are very expensive.
Speaking when she addressed the group of women in the area who were gathered to fetch water at the area’s only borehole, Gathogo said that the water insufficiency in the area has affected the business sector in the area as most of the people in Githurai area consume water in their premises.
“This is a let down from the water company and we are going to push for an immediate action from them so as we can continue with our business normally. Let’s be patient as I consult with the people concerned,” she said.
Sought for a comment, the Ruiru Water and Sewerage Company Director Eliud Odhiambo said that the company is aware of the insufficiency that has been caused by a pipe burst in a section of the area which led to the closure of the water system as they could not repair the pipe during as the rain was heavy.
He assured the residents that the water supply will be restored by Friday.
