Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange has urged the government to regulate the construction industry to avert collapse of buildings .

He said that the building industry has been infiltrated by quacks , laxity of building polices and weak supervisions by construction enforcers.

“ The building in the country has failed to deliver the desired expectation of professionalism due to entrance of quacks and weak construction policies”,said Koinange.

Koinange said that for the industry to restore to its professionalism ,the government and county governments should toughen construction rules.

“ Without stern regulation governing the building industry by both governments ,the country will continue to reel in the effects of shoddy workmanship which will be causing loss of innocent Kenyans and their property “, said Koinange.

Koinange was speaking yesterday at Karuri shopping center, Karuri Ward where he said that the collapsing of many building in the country is due to the tendency to ignore professional advice.

“ Developers have totally ignored professional’s advice when putting up structures risking the lives of tenants “, said Koinange.

He called the government to put in place mechanism to ensure that the building industry is regulated and supervised by competent professionals .

Koinange also said that corruption must be stamped out as it has contributed to the raise in the collapse of many buildings .

“ Developers exchange hands with dirty money with corrupt supervisors who allow the construction of building to continue without their supervision ', said Koinange.

The legislator said that most county governments have failed in taming quacks in the construction industry and urged the national government to take the role oversight in construction industry
