Speaking on the phone Tuesday, Mbugua said the public health department in the county acted swiftly, a move that will save many lives.

“My gratitude goes out to the county public health ministry for banning hawking of food as a measure to curb this outbreak,” she said.

She advised residents of Kihoto and Nakuru County at large to observe high standards of hygiene in places where it has fallen short, saying cholera will always strike in unhygienic conditions.

“With the cases of an outbreak of cholera in Naivasha, I would like to call upon residents, not only in Naivasha but in the whole county to take precautions against its spread by drinking safe water and avoiding raw or uncooked food.”

Dr Samuel Mwaura of Nakuru Public Health earlier said the department is doing everything possible to ensure that the outbreak is contained.
