Kibra MP Ken Okoth has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson and and the commission's CEO Ezra Chiloba to resign following the Supreme Court's nullification of the 2017 presidential elections.
Speaking during an interview on KTN moments after the Chief Justice Maraga ordered new presidential elections be held after 60 days, the lawmaker said that it was quite embarrassing for the duo to have mishandled the polls and still retake the same responsibilities after two months.
"Elections must be conducted in a clean way and I think Wafula Chebukati and Ezra Chiloba should resign and votes must count...It is the people who count that matters and from now on, it is the votes and the voters who count and Wafula and Chiloba should resign. Let us put new people there for confidence," he said.
When asked how new people would be found to replace the duo and still organize the re-run in sixty days, Okoth said that the duo had very little to do and as such, it shouldn't be a problem finding their replacement in the short period of time.
"The only single job that Chebukati had was to be the agent in the presidential elections in which he failed by a majority and I think it
is not 4-2 but 5-2.It has been proven that the rules were not followed , the commission under his leadership failed to conduct proper elections. It is going to cost the tax payers more money to run a new election in 60 days....He should have done a clean election. And if you fail in something you resign....It is time for them to resign Immediately," he added.
