The MP said that the local chiefs are the people at the grassroots and residents should work hand in hand to tame crime spearheaded by the youths.

Speaking at Ting’ang’a Ward on Thursday at a public baraza, Njomo expressed his concerns with  increased drug and substance abuse cases yet the local chiefs are available to probe the grassroot levels.

“Sometimes I wonder if the chiefs sleep on their jobs or the residents are failing to report the drugs and substance abuse to the authorities,” said Njomo.

He said that many youth drop out of school due to parent neglect and he will ensure the chiefs are vigilant in taming not only crimes and substance abuse but illicit brews in the villages of Kiambu.

The legislator said that lack of education is the key challenge to development in the area and if only parents could start being serious with their sons, it will greatly reduce the crimes in the area.

Njomo however cautioned area chiefs that they should be vigilant in their duties and help reduce petty crimes or he will ensure lazybones are laid off their work.

“I will ensure the lazy chiefs are brought to books since Kiambu constituency will not work with people who are not working,” cautioned MP.

He said he will work hand in hand with the county government of Kiambu to ensure the chiefs are not accepting bribes or practice any kind of corruption to serve the people of Kenya.

He hailed residents for applying Nyumba Kumi initiative in the region which has immensely reduced illicit brews and drugs and substance abuse.
