Makueni Member Parliament Daniel Maanzo has urged the government to compensate victims of the 2017 post-election violence.
Addressing the press in Wote town on Tuesday, Maanzo said the Jubilee administration should focus on offering reparation to those killed and maimed after the polls following the reconciliation pact between President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga.
Maanzo said the compensation for the injuries suffered would bring national reconciliation and healing that the country needs to move forward.
‘‘Those who suffered after the polls died in pursuit of peace and electoral justice, and now that President Uhuru and opposition leader Raila have entered into a truce, compensation should be a priority,” Maanzo said.
He however, reiterated that the quest for electoral justice should not stop to avert recurrent leadership impasses that usually rock the country every electioneering year.
‘‘There is need to have a proper electoral system in place to oversee and conduct elections, to stop such electoral stalemate that lead to loss of lives and property,’’ Maanzo added.
Maanzo called on the president to form an all-inclusive government for posterity.
He criticized the ODM MPs for ousting Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula as the minority leader replacing him with Siaya senator James Orengo.
