Mulyungi  claims that Ngilu's government is ill prepared in terms of disaster management and rescue operations.

Addressing the press in Mwingi town on Wednesday, the MP slammed Ngilu's government for taking too long to rescue five people who drowned into Enziu river last Saturday.

Mulyungi claimed their distress call to the Kitui County Government to help in the rescue operations failed to yield fruit.

He said Ngilu's government has not invested in disaster management putting locals' lives at risk.

"Governor Ngilu should explain to Kitui people why she has not invested in disaster management despite the county getting hefty funding," Mulyungi said.

Mulyungi asked locals to demand services from Ngilu whom she accused of sleeping on the job.

He claimed that Ngilu has failed to perform in her mandate as the  governor.

Five people drowned in Enziu river on Saturday last week as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in Kitui and other parts of the country.

On Monday, two bodies were retrieved as operations to retrieve others continue.
