Imenti Central legislature Gideon Mwiti might be declared bankrupt due to an alleged inability to pay Sh 6.1 million loan.According to the Nation, he obtained the money from Diamond Trust Bank through a pyramid scheme. Mwiti might walk in the footsteps of former Cabinet Secretary and Kangundo MP Paul Ngei. He might lose his parliamentary seat be barred from holding any public office.His appeal to set aside the bankruptcy notice were dismissed by Lady Justice Grace Nzioka.“I find no basis to set aside the said bankruptcy notice issued to the applicant. Consequently, I hereby dismiss the MP’s application in its entirety and direct him to meet the bank’s cost of the suit,” she said in her ruling on March 7 as quoted by the Nation.In 2008, Diamond Trust Bank moved to court demanding bankruptcy declaration against Mwiti. The bank claimed that the accused and former Akiba Micro-Finance had failed to repay their loan. The ruling comes at a time when Mwiti is likely to seek a re-election. This might be an opportunity for those who want to oust the incumbent.The legislature has engaged in several legal tussles in the past. Bankruptcy is not a new case to the Imenti Central legislature.
