Matharao, Gichagi, Kiganjo, Kisii and Umoja slums in Thika Sub County are the major areas where criminals are hiding and operating from, Thika Township MP Patrick Wainaina has said.

Wainaina called on police to launch a crackdown in the areas to flush out the thugs who have been terrorizing residents.

The lawmaker said criminals are hiding in the 4 areas due to a high population of people living there.

“Police should be keen to end crime from the 4 areas because the criminals have taken advantage of the increased population to hide there so that they can go on with their dubious dealings,” said the legislator.

He said impunity will only end in the constituency if police officers promise to work day and night.

“Police need to protect people and their properties but I am not seeing police officers serving in Thika police station doing their work properly. Security patrols should be intensified in the region to flush out criminals from their hiding dens,” he added.

He also claimed that Makongeni’s Phase 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are hideouts for the thugs and called on residents to speak out whenever they suspect anyone because failing to report will see most people especially traders being killed by the thugs.

The MP was speaking in Thika town on Sunday evening.
