Kikuyus should take a back seat after the retirement of President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022, a Jubilee MP has said.
Kiambaa legislator Paul Koinange said politicians from Central Kenya should step aside and let others leaders from the wider GEMA region seek the country's top leadership.
In an interview on Njata TV, Friday night, Koinange named former Meru governor Peter Munya as the most suitable leader to succeed President Kenyatta as Mt Kenya's political kingpin.
"Meru region has been very supportive to leaders from Central. They backed Mzee Kenyatta, Kibaki and they have shown overwhelming support to Uhuru. It is our turn to declare support for one of their own," said the lawmaker.
The Kenyatta's are from Kiambu County while retired President Mwai Kibaki hails from Nyeri County.
The Mt Kenya region has always voted as a bloc to the three Head of States.
Munya who was ousted by the incumbent Governor Kiraitu Murungi has already declared his interest to run for the presidency in 2022.
Of late, it has been speculated that the former county boss is headed to Uhuru's new Cabinet.
The President had pledged to back his deputy William Ruto to succeed him after serving his second and final term.
Koinange said Munya can be persuaded to wait for Ruto to complete his two terms and run for the Kenya's highest office in 2032.
"As Mt Kenya region we risk being alienated by other communities if we insist on producing the next president. We need to show the country that we are not selfish," the second-time MP added.
