Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has said that residents who are yet to register as voters in the area will not benefit from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Speaking to the public in Mlolongo town during the handing over of CDF bursary, Makau ordered officials in charge of allocating the funds to vet all persons who want to benefit from the same before issuing cheques.
According to Makau, he does not understand why some of the residents were unwilling to register as voters in order to take part in the upcoming general elections.
He also asked the residents not to wait until the last minute before they start rushing to register as voters.
‘’I’m urging you not to wait until the last minute because the electoral body might not extend the exercise,” he said, as quoted by the Standard.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) under the leadership of the newly appointed chairman Wafula Chebukati has been calling upon leaders from different parts of the nation not to use unconstitutional means to convince residents from different areas to register as voters.
Reports have surfaced that some leaders are calling for the arrest and prosecution of unregistered voters, which is not constitutionally acceptable.
