The cut in government salaries has sparked a lot of mixed reactions [Photo/Kenya-Today]
The MP for Kieni Kanini Kega has condemned the pay rates commission for diminishing officials' compensation and encouraged the legislature to give them vehicles to compensate for the reduction in remittances.
Mr Kega is convinced that the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) could have given government vehicles to administrators the same way it does to other State officers.
“Other State officers, like Cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, parastatal bosses and others, have GK vehicles with personal drivers. MPs’ transport should also be catered for by giving them vehicles to ease their movement,” said Mr Kega as reported by the Daily Nation.
Kega who is attempting to reclaim his seat as MP on a Jubilee Party ticket, also mentioned that auto stipends have likewise been rejected.
“The move will reduce the wage bill and we welcome it, but they forgot to offer transport alternatives. The zoning capped by levels of kilometres will do good and save more money,” said the MP as reported by the Daily Nation.
