Muhoroni MP Onyango K'Oyoo has revealed his plan to ditch the Peoples Democratic Party for the Orange Democratic Movement party ahead of the 2017 general election.
K'Oyoo said he was a member of the ODM and that he only used PDP to win the Parliamentary seat during the 2013 general election.
The legislator who defected to PDP in the run up to the 2013 general election after the bungled ODM nominations now says he is 'back home' and will defend his seat on an ODM ticket.
Speaking during a radio interview in Kisumu's Radio Nam Lolwe on Wednesday, the legislator said he had only sought refuge in PDP but had been working with ODM which has been the ‘region’s party’.
“I am not a member of PDP. I am a member of ODM. PDP is like a land rover I used to chase my stolen cow, and when I got my cow and came back I am now home,” said K'Oyoo.
This is the second time the MP publicly denounced the party he used to get to Parliament in 2013. During the Luo Cultural Festival held in December last year, K'Oyoo cleared the air before ODM party leader Raila Odinga saying he was in ODM.
“This (ODM) is my home and anybody who wants to compete with me in the 2017 election will face me in this party and not any other. Do not be suspicious with me as I am back home and this is where I belong to,” he said.
He said he has been implementing the ODM agenda which included improvement of academic standards, infrastructure and good use of Constituency Development Fund in his constituency.
The legislator had contested the for the Muhoroni parliamentary seat for the third time in 2013 against Prof Ayiecho Olweny who was then the incumbent.
After the ODM party gave Prof Olweny the nomination ticket, K'Oyoo joined the league of the defectors and left ODM.
