According to The Star, the MP whose constituency borders Somalia to the East, says that withdrawing KDF from Somalia will have an impact on security especially on towns close to the Somalia border.

The MP alleges that those calling for withdrawal of KDF from Somalia are wrong and are only playing politics.

Dahir says that the only way to keep terrorists at bay is to have KDF remain in Somalia and deployment of more military personnel to guard the country’s borders especially in North Eastern where cases of terror attacks are common.

“Withdrawing KDF from Somalia is not an option, what the government needs to do is to reinforce military personnel and also invest in modern military weapon so as to keep terrorists away,” he said as quoted by the Star.

The MP also urged the government to sensitize locals on security matters.

He observed that security initiatives like Nyumba Kumi will help tame terrorism and other crimes in the region and other parts of the country.

On Friday last week, Al Shabaab militants attacked a KDF camp in Kulbiyow killing nine KDF troops according to information by the national government.

The Friday attack has seen several politicians call for the withdrawal of KDF troops from Somalia. The politicians want the troops withdrawn and re-deployed to guard Kenya’s boarders.
