Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka had fronted the proposal last week which was later on backed by ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

And on Tuesday, Geni who is the North Mugirango MP said the proposal was likely to give the Jubilee Party an upper hand in areas where the two coalitions had almost equal strength.

“I am not of the opinion that as Cord we hold joint nominations especially in the areas where we enjoy equal support with our opponents. This could deny us outright victory and my suggestion is that we back a popular candidate without necessarily going to the nominations,” he said.

“We don’t have to subject our favourite candidates to nominations in such areas. If possible, we should give them direct nominations after assessing their popularity on the ground. We must ensure that we scoop more seats in the 12th parliament,” he said.

Geni also challenged the Cord affiliates to hold their party primaries earlier so that they prevent circumstances where disputes would rock the parties.

“We also have to do our respect party primaries earlier so that we solve the issues of disputes that may arise. This will help us settle in time,” he said.
