Speaking in his constituency over the weekend, the legislator said devolving health services meant bringing services closer to the people.

"If we revert health services to the national government, this will amount to denying the people health services they have enjoyed for two years in county governments," said Busienei.

Noting that the sector has experienced some hiccups in the hands of the county governments, the lawmaker said returning the services to the national government will be retrogressive and vowed to oppose any motion of that nature should it make its way to the National Assembly.

The lawmaker urged residents to register with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), as it will assist them offset medical bills without selling their property.

"Nowadays you do not need to sell your cow or land to cater for your medical bills, NHIF has made things easier," he added.
