Juja MP Francis Munyua on Wednesday presented a petition on the floor of the house demanding more footbridges along Thika Superhighway.
Waititu explained that the petition was due to the many deaths on the Superhighway as pedestrians are killed by speeding vehicles.
"Since completion of the highway, more than 500 deaths have been reported. We can't continue watching as our people suffer premature deaths," said Waititu.
The petition was presented days after the Kenyatta University Students Association (KUSA) President Were Sam demanded a footbridge at KU Ruiru Campus.
Munyua said the matter as is urgent and the government should act immediately.
"We are asking the government through the Ministry of Roads to build footbridges in various main towns and bus stops especially between Ruiru river in Juja Constituency and river Chania in Thika town," said Waititu.
"I thank the over 200 Juja residents who have signed the petition brought to the speaker as they have made my work easier," added the MP.
