Tigania West MP David Kariithi has endorsed Meru Governor Peter Munya’s presidential bid in the 2022 general election.
Speaking during a campaign rally at Kiirua town on Sunday, Kariithi suggested Baringo Senator Gideon Moi as Munya's presidential running mate in 2022 race to State House.
“Our governor (Munya) is the best suited politician to take realms of power after President Uhuru Kenyatta retires in 2022. We have enough votes, with the help of Gideon (Moi) as Munya’s deputy, to make our governor become the 5th president of Kenya,” Kariithi said.
The MP further warned Deputy President William Ruto not to interfere with the Party of National Unity (PNU) affairs and keep off Meru politics.
He claimed that Ruto was trying all his best to block Munya from vying for the presidency through funding opponents to file cases in court challenging Munya’s leadership in PNU.
“Ruto is trying to sabotage the operations of our party because it is a threat to him. He knows our party leader will use the party ticket to run for presidency,” said the legislator.
Other politicians apart from Munya who have shown interest in 2022 presidential race include; DP Ruto, Maendeleo Chap Chap leader Alfred Mutua, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Tharaka-Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki , NASA co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi among others.
President Kenyatta has already endorsed his deputy Ruto to take over after him.
