Turbo Member of Parliament Janet Sitienei has urged the Teachers Service Commission 9TSC) to employ more teachers her constituency.
The MP said her constituency has a 50 percent shortage of teachers that led to poor results in the last years Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Speaking in Eldoret town on Tuesday, the Jubilee allied MP lamented that some schools with over 500 students had barely ten teachers employed by TSC.
“I want to call upon TSC to deploy more teachers in Turbo. How is the government expecting students to get the quality education with this shortage?” said Sitienei.
“For the government to achieve 100 percent transition, TSC must employ more teachers. We want TSC to at least be employing 20,000 teachers per year to help bridge the teacher's shortage gap in the country,” she added.
The MP further advised students who scored grade D and below in KCSE to consider pursuing courses such as masonry, electric installation, electric and electronics among others.
“This will help them get skills and knowledge that will assist them to get jobs or even to employ others hence improving the community's livelihoods,” she noted.
