Shabbir said he has allocated his own money to build the monument in Kondele area along Kisumu-Kakamega road.

The MP said his early attempts to put up the monument hit a snag due to a road construction.

“I wanted to do this immediately after the post-poll chaos but Kisumu municipal council could not know where the road will pass and they were unable to give me a location. The road is now done, I want the county government to allocate me space,” he said.

He said most of the people who were killed during the post-election violence were shot by the police.

Speaking at Kondele on Saturday during a funds drive for a women group, Shabbir said those who were killed are heroes and heroines and must be remembered.

He called upon the County Governor Jack Ranguma to allocate space for the monument for the start of the construction of the monument.

Shabbir said he has all the names of those who were killed in Kisumu.

“I still keep their names and the information regarding where each and everyone was shot at. These are our people and we must honour them in death,” he said.
