Kisauni MP-elect Ali Mbogo has restored hope among needy and bright students after pledged to educate them using part of his salary.
Speaking to the Star, Mbogo, who dethroned ODM’s Rashid Bedzima, said that education is among the key areas he will address during his term in office.
“I have and will go on to cut my spending to pay school fees for needy students in Kisauni. My core interest is elimu kwanza [education first] in Kisauni,” he told the local daily.
The lawmaker also assured the students that he will do everything within his means to ensure that they continue with their education regardless of their financial backgrounds.
“I will use whatever I have to see bright students in Kisauni get better quality education, “he added. The politician further said that he did not contest for the seat to enrich himself but to improve the welfare of the residents of this part of the nation.
“I have reiterated before on campaign platforms that I am not looking for leadership to enrich myself but to serve the common people,” Mbogo said.
The remarks of the legislator come amidst debate over the reduction of MP’s salary by Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
